A chain of bars currently opening up in Tokyo has been getting a lot of attention for its unusual menu, which includes items such as sea lion curry and steamed Korean silkworm chrysalis. Not for the faint of stomach, Mr. Kanso, is a no-frills drinking establishment that offers an impressively diverse menu of 350 items all of which come out of a can.
The place is lined with shelves upon shelves, stocked with canned food from around the globe. Right from the bear curry from Hokkaido to French salad in a tin, the eatery boasts of a 300-dishes variety and all of it canned!
Like so many places in Japan, there's a very vague line drawn between bar and eatery. Usually there's not one at all. Mr. Kanso falls into this category. You can totally get smashed on awesome sake, shochu, beer, and/or hard booze, and you can eat. But what makes this place special is that their food selection is all canned food! From SPAM to pate the variety here is very impressive. We had some goose liver pate because, well, that shit is awesome. But the coolest part was the crazy sake they has that once opened, it overflowed and, upon touching air became a delicious sake slush instead of a liquid. So cool!!!!
This bizarrely popular bar offers customers a wide range of canned foods that they can eat on the spot from the can. Their shelves are stocked with foods from all over the world, from the ubiquitous Spam to more adventurous options like walrus curry, so you can try foods you know and have always wanted to try along with those you didn’t even know existed.
